On 14 May 2024, Rio del Fierro Composite Squadron lost a beloved member. Captain John Allan Robertson lost his life from injuries sustained when the ejection seat of his T-6A Texan II activated during ground operations. To honor his legacy, Civil Air Patrol established a memorial endowment in partnership with the Rio del Fierro Comp Sq. and the Robertson family. The endowment will annually pay for one cadet to attend a national powered flight or glider academy and realize their dream of becoming a pilot.
